My buddy Jared Goralnick of TechnoTheory has some really nice, short and sweet video tips for tweaking your email settings within Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo and Twitter.
Now, I consider myself to be pretty clued-in on all this stuff, but I found these really helpful as a reminder that as a default, these networks are set up to send you lots of unnecessary stuff. You can turn everything off except the things you really want to know immediately, like direct messages. A good example is Facebook – if you log in to Facebook relatively frequently, say weekly, then you really don’t need an email in your inbox every time someone tags you in a photo or posts a note or whatever – you’ll see all of your updates every time you log in. Another example is Twitter – if you set up your phone to get direct messages, then why would you need an additional email notification? Simple, but smart.
Thanks Jared!
