Facebook Lessons from Kindergarten
6 Rules for Connecting with Colleagues on Facebook
It’s simple to form groups or fan pages on Facebook. But it’s important to remember that, more than anything, Facebook is about individuals. In order to be successful, you, as an individual, need to become an active member of the Facebook community. You need to build your own network of friends and fans who have a personal connection to you as well as your organization. The lessons here should be familar from the early days of grade school.

  1. Share everything—post articles, news stories, blog posts and more to your profile.
  2. Play nice with groups—embrace groups that form around your interests.
  3. Make new friends, but keep the old—accept all friend requests and use friend lists to control security.
  4. Try new things—form your own group, experiment with applications, try Facebook ads.
  5. Be well-rounded—mix your personal interests with your professional interests. Be real.
  6. Be a gracious tea party host—invite your Facebook friends to events you’re hosting.
