So I get home yesterday, and start picking through the pile of junk mail on the dining room table, and pick up this inconspicuous white envelope, think to myself “ANOTHER letter from John Graham? They need to stop spamming me!!!” I’m about to toss it, when I see the word “Congratulations” and then further down in the text, “Maddie N. Grant, CAE”. Holy frack!!! Whoooo hooo!! Looks like all that hard work paid off. SO HAPPY.
So I am taking this opportunity to let everyone know that I am officially declaring a personal mission to develop the YAP CAE study group area into something amazing that continues to really help people going through what is basically a totally heinous process. I want to build up our relationships with those association execs who have their CAE’s and might be willing to be advisors [if that is YOU, talk to me!]. I want to set up scheduled chat room chats (I’m looking into Live Interviews Online which has a better question-then-answer framework and then archives the conversations for you. [Might need sponsorship help for that, if anyone is interested...]. I want to have an ongoing open dialogue with the ASAE CAE Candidate Sharepoint site and do some good cross linking. I’ve talked to the powers that be about whether I can have a relationship with the CAE Immersion Course so I can go say hi and welcome everyone and let them know about YAP and our virtual study group.
The study group worked great this first time round, but can only get better and better. As you know, we are “eternally beta”. If you participated, I need your feedback. If you are planning on taking the exam, I want you to join (it’s open to all!) so I can help you pass. If you know someone who is thinking of taking it, send ‘em my way. This study “area” is for them.
Oh and by the way I need a much cooler name for it. It’s not so much a group as a study hall, though without the connotations of “detention”, like when I got caught smoking in high school. Yes, I was one of those – a goth, basically, dyed black hair, big black boots, always listening to The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cult… sorry, little digression there. Sigh, those were the days!
Exams suck. They sucked in high school and they suck even more now, when we all actually care a lot more than we did then (or some of us did then, anyway). So I am here for you.
And for my fellow December exam-takers, all fingers and toes are crossed for you. If you passed, we’ll party. If you didn’t, we’ll party anyway and help you next time. Good luck!

Congratulations Maddie — and thanks for all the support that YAP provided to candidates preparing for the exam. Now it’s time to update all your signature blocks, etc to include your CAE! Congrats — go celebrate!
Congrats Maddie!
Congratulations, sweetie! I know you’ve worked long and hard for this. Gros bisous to you!
Congratulations Maddie on your hard work! I can’t wait to see where you go from here!!
Hey Mads, I’m really happy for you! I knew you would do it. Can’t wait to see you “walk” in Toronto.
Congrats Maddie!
Congratulations, Maddie.
When I taught in the Chicago study group, it was frustrating to have to teach to the exam and not utilize all the professional knowledge in the room.
I also thought emphasis was placed on the wrong portions of some areas.
In fact, on several questions, we all felt ASAE answers were wrong.
Perhaps you can advocate for changes in this area.
Congrats Mads – I knew you’d do it.
@David – contact me privately. I’ve been working with the CAE training group in DC for 6 years, and I think some of the stuff we’ve discovered along the way might help the Chicago training group.
Marvelous … on all accounts – on scoring, on innovating, and on the commitment. I’m looking forward to being in the next class.
Yeah!!!! Not that there was any question that you’d pass. I’d be happy to help with any YAP study group. – Mickie Rops, CAE
