So the big news in the socialmediaverse is that Facebook has bought Friendfeed, and while there seems to be some agreement that this is a good thing for Facebook, I am firmly in the camp of those who are lamenting the imminent end of Friendfeed, a service which was golden to us early adopters and of which I personally had not yet had a chance to tap into its full potential – and now I guess I won’t bother. Sigh.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, there’s already speculation on who will replace it… but while this new (?) service, Streamy, looks interesting, my money is actually on the ever improving social features of Google Reader. Yes, really!
You can already follow other people, “like”, comment on and share posts, and even bundle stuff. I haven’t dug deep into this stuff yet, but their sharing improvements felt good and natural and easy to start using regularly, and I wouldn’t be surprised if their team is huddled together right now planning more awesomeness in the light of this acquisition news. I for one will be watching, and using, and liking.

Amazing timing Maddie!
Facebook bought Friendfeed just 3 days after I created a FF profile. So I took your advice and am looking into Google Reader. Thanks for the pointer.
