Facebook, useful as it is, continues to become more and more evil. Read this post from Jason Calacanis which explains why.

Basically, if you log into Facebook and get this,

DO NOT – I repeat – DO NOT hit “skip”.  If you do, your privacy settings have suddenly all defaulted to EVERYTHING BEING PUBLIC.  (If you did skip it already, go to “privacy settings” or see below).

When you get to the next screen, click to keep your “old settings” on everything.

Now, as the article about “How to Manage Facebook Privacy Options” on WikiHow (from where I got these screenshots) suggests, this is a pretty simplistic workaround.  What you really need to do at this point is go check your privacy settings carefully and MAKE DOUBLY SURE that everything is how you want it. The article tells you step by step how to do this if you need help.  But if you don’t have time to do this right this second, at least by going through the process above you won’t have defaulted to having all your stuff suddenly be publicly searchable!
