The title of this talk says it all, really – Making Data More Human.
“Jer Thorp is an artist and educator from Vancouver, Canada, currently living in New York. Coming from a background in genetics, his digital art practice explores the many-folded boundaries between science and art.”
Watch this fascinating video of his recent TEDxVancouver talk about giving meaning to data. I talked a little bit about this in my Mind:Blown – Technologies of the Future presentation; if future technologies pull data in real time from the fabric of our daily lives, in an automated and seamless way, then with any luck that will release us to do what we do best – to add the meaning back in to all of that big data. “Numbers are not just numbers, they are tethered to pieces of the real world”.
Tip o’ the hat to Shelly Kramer for the find.
