Thank you to Rachel (Phillips) Slotnick for this post. If you’re in NYC, GO TO THIS. If not, please tell your friends about it. Thanks!

It’s not news to anyone that budget cuts are running wild in the NYC public school system and the arts are the first thing to go. Fortunately, Music Crossing Borders is there to ensure NYC children gain access to the arts in the form of music education from cultures around the world.
Music Crossing Borders is a NYC-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring world music education programs back to NYC public schools that have lost their funding for the arts. Using music from cultures around the world, they’re using this cross-cultural education to show children of all ages and backgrounds how music truly is the Universal Language, crossing borders geographically and socially.
On May 10th at the breath-taking Studio 450 in NYC, Music Crossing Borders will hold their annual Take a Tour Gala featuring none other than ?uestlove of the Grammy-winning band, The Roots. Sponsored in part by Guitar Center, ONE Coconut Water and Heartland Brewery, it promises to be a wonderful night of food, drinks and entertainment with all proceeds going toward Music Crossing Borders’ mission to bring their music education programs free of charge to under-funded NYC public schools by 2013.
Tickets are pre-sale only and will not be available at the door. To RSVP and reserve your spot, visit: www.musiccrossingborders.org/gala
If you are unable to attend the gala but would still like to support Music Crossing Borders’ mission to bring music education programs back to NYC public schools, you can do so here: http://musiccrossingborders.org/donate/
